Our History

Mortuary Online Institute traces its roots to 1926, when it was established in New York City with a singular mission: to prepare compassionate, skilled funeral service professionals. For nearly 100 years, MOI has stood at the forefront of funeral service education, adapting to the needs of each era while holding firm to its founding values.

Over the decades, MOI earned full accreditation from the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) and authorization from the New York State Board of Regents — recognitions that affirm our academic rigor and professional relevance. The introduction of online coursework expanded access to students across the nation, allowing MOI to fulfill its mission regardless of geography.

Today, as we celebrate a century of service, MOI continues to lead the industry — combining a distinguished legacy with modern, flexible education pathways.
